Vacations!

With planning our trip to Disney World later this year, I wanted to make a new vacations page on my blog.  I'll put all of the planning and detailed info about upcoming trips we take below!

In September of this year, we are traveling to Disney World.  There are a few reasons we chose to go in September:
  • It is one of the lowest crowded times to go to Disney.  With taking three toddlers with us, the last thing we want to do is wait in line all day long for rides, food, etc.
  • (Kind of goes with the first point) All school-aged kids just went back to school, and therefore probably won't be taking off right away for a vacay.  After much research, I don't think we will ever go to Disney during the summer months.  I figure we might as well take advantage of the less crowded parks while our kids are in preschool (well, just Ella as of now) and it really doesn't matter if they miss right at the beginning of the year or not.
  • Free dining plans!  Dining plans in Disney include free meals (including character meals) and vary based on type of plan.  They range from $55-$250 PER PERSON PER DAY!  From end of August through September Disney always offers free dining plans, probably to bring more people in during the slower months.  The free one is normally the one for about $100/person.  It includes two sit down meals and one quick service (or snack) per day per person.  I've heard it is plenty of food for anyone.  The free dining plans have not come available yet, as they generally do later Spring/early Summer but as soon as it does, our agent will add it on to our package. This will save us so much money on meals while still going to all of the Disney property restaurants!
  • The weather should be good:  not scorching hot but still pool ready!  The only thing we are somewhat concerned about is it being hurricane season.  So, for that reason we did buy the trip insurance.  I am hoping the weather is just right.  I want to swim a lot in our awesome resort pool and also not sweat to death walking around at the parks all day.
  • We will be there over our to-be-4-year-old's birthday.  Our Ella LOVES everything Disney Princess and Minnie Mouse.  Spending her birthday in Disney will be so awesome for her.  I just can't wait.

3/4/13
This past Friday I booked our flights to Disney!  When I had previously looked for flights, they were around $300/each.  We will need 6 tickets, as my sister is going with us and each of our kids will need one since they are all over 2 years old.  I was told by our travel agent that flights are normally cheapest mid-week, so Tuesday-Thursday.  The $300/each price point had not changed at all since I started looking more than a month ago, until Friday.  I randomly signed on and tickets were $30 less each!  I went ahead and bought them all!  Paul had a credit from a flight that he recently cancelled, so we used that as well.  We ended up getting all 6 tickets for much less than we originally thought we would spend.  We went through Southwest, and they have no luggage fees, so that is a plus as well!  I was so happy, and surprised, to get such a deal on a Friday!
